The Jordanian government amended the immigration law to grant investors the citizenship or residence permit of the country.
They launched several investment options under the immigration programme:
- A 1,5 million USD five year, zero interest deposit at the CBJ (Central Bank of Jordan).
- The second option is to purchase treasury bonds for no less than ten years, the value limit is also 1,5 million dollars.
- The third scheme is the purchase of securities from an active investment portfolio for at least 1,5 million dollars.
- Meanwhile, the most affordable option is to invest one million USD in an SME for a period of three years.
- The last solution to obtain citizenship through the programme is to invest two million dollars in any location in Jordan. This option has another choosable project line: the applicant may spend 1,5 million USD if the project is registered in any governate other than the capital (Amman) and create at least twenty jobs. Moreover, the project must be in operation for at least three years.
Successful applicants will receive a "
temporary passport", valid for three years. The "
temporary citizens" will receive full rights, except the political issues but after three years this status will be changed to "
full citizenship with full rights", according to the
Jordan Times.
Regarding the rules of residency, the permanent resident status has been replaced with a new, five-year residency. The requisite is that the foreigner applicant should purchase a property for not less than 200,000JD (app 250,000 EUR) and the Department of Land and Survey must confirm the value.
Applicants can obtain citizenship for the members of their family through investment as well (spouse, children and parents). The number of applicants is capped at 500 cases annually. Investors already living in Jordan may apply as well if they have local partners in their business in the country. Under this option, each shareholder in the partnership must own at least two million dollars in stakes.
