The Global Peace Index (GPI) is a widely recognized measure of a country's peacefulness. It ranks 163 independent states and territories based on 23 indicators that measure the absence of fear of violence. The following are the top 10 most peaceful countries according to the 2021 GPI:

- New Zealand
- Denmark
- Portugal
- Slovenia
- Austria
- Switzerland
- Japan
- Finland
- Canada
It's worth noting that peacefulness is a complex concept and can be measured in many different ways. Other organizations and studies may produce slightly different rankings based on their methodologies and criteria.
If we look closer at the list, these are all first-world (rich and developed) countries with complex immigration rules. But some accept investments in exchange for residency permits or even citizenship.
